- - - >Zao, in my opinion, is one of the best hardcore bands around today. Their music is just as brutal and intense as anyone in the industry. Despite Zao's numerous member changes, they are tighter musically than they ever have been. Dan Weyandt's vocal style is unlike any other in the hardcore scene. You wonder why he doesn't throw up more often at shows than he does. His writing style is awesome. His lyrics are deep and insightful. They make you think unlike many songwriters in the Christian Music Industry. It's cool to see Russ Cogdell playing guitar in Zao. You don't usually see a black person in hardcore. Brett Detar was recently replaced by Scott Melinger on second guitar, which is cool because a second guitar really adds a lot to Zao's sound. Also, after not having a bass player for so long they finally found Rob Horner. I'm interested in hearing how Zao sounds with the new addition of a bass. Props to Jesse Smith, the only original member of the band. His drumming skills leave me in awe. It's surprising that after his original band leaving him, he perservered and kept Zao alive. If you know what's best for you, you'd listen to Zao. They are a listening experience to behold.
